Good morning, class!

Let’s learn how to set the Schluter Ditra Membrane under the tile in a bathroom.

Waterproofing is essential when building a bathroom. I love using the Schluter Ditra membrane as a waterproof, protective barrier between the subfloor and the tile. Let’s dive into this topic…

The days of laying cement board or hardi-backer under tile for a bathroom floor are pretty much over. There are a few exceptions to where cement board is still a viable option, but for the most part, using Schluter Ditra for an underlayment for a tiled bathroom floor is the best way to go. It not only helps to prevent cracks from expansion and contraction of wood subfloors, but it also completely waterproofs the bathroom.

For setting membranes like Schluter Kerdi & Ditra, the wettest ratio of mixture is important for a fully bonded install. Schluter All-set mixture ratios: For membranes: 7.5 - 8.5 quarts of water per bag For setting tile: 5.5 - 6.5 quarts of water per bag
