Hey students!
Setting tile opens the door to a lot of different opportunities— one of which is the ability to set stone. I think that if you can set tile, you can set stone. Don’t get me wrong— I think masons are incredibly talented, and they most certainly can set stone better than I can. But, if you want to save a few dollars and have yourself a beautiful stone wall, then I say you should go for it on your own.
Obviously, setting heavy stone is very labor intensive. But, the one nice thing about setting this kind of stone is your room for error. It doesn’t have to look perfect. You won’t be killing yourself trying to keep things straight and in-line. If anything, the more “messy” it looks, the more natural it looks. And that was what I was going for.
One hot tip I show you how is how I fill in the gaps with mortar using a grout bag.
