Heated flooring is a feature that should not be overlooked. I think most people, including myself, enjoy their bathrooms more in the winter than other times of the year. You are more inclined to use a soaking tub, take longer showers, and relax more when the days get shorter and colder. And if the floors were cold.....It might not be so relaxing....
The latest electric floor heating system from Schluter is my favorite system to date.
Ditra heat is simply a uncoupling membrane that allows the running of a heated cable through it. This allows you to easily run wires and create a custom pattern to your bathroom; making it easy to omit areas under vanities, toilets and other items.
It also does the job in one step. Other systems require you to thinset or glue down wires, floor level, and then install an uncoupling membrane....which results in a much higher floor height.
All electric floor heating requires a dedicated electrical circuit, so making sure your main electrical panel is capable of the space and additional output will need to be determined.
A programmable thermostat is an energy efficient way to make sure your floors are heated at the times you most often use your bathroom.
There are variations to price for installation, mostly in the running of a dedicated circuit. Typically its a $20-25 per sqft upgrade.....And to me it is worth every penny on those cold mornings!
