Hey students!
We all need that extra shelf in the shower for storage… or even to help balance yourself if you shave your legs! Ask my wife and she will tell you this kind of shelf is not a want, it’s a NEED.
Here is a quick run-down of how to make a corner shelf in your shower:
Step 1: Place tile and shelf to the height you want it to sit. Trace the shelf in the tile to cut to size. (We are doing ONE SIDE first).
Step 2: Cut space in tile to fit shelf (this instance it was a prefabricated stone shelf and porcelain tile).
Step 3: Install cut tile and notch out the shelf (I use the Makita Grinder).
Step 4: Make sure the shelf is level.
Step 5: Install majority large remaining tile around the shelf, leaving room for the shelf.
Step 6: Going to the OTHER SIDE, place shelf against tile and trace to cut tile to size.
Step 7: Cut space in tile to fit shelf.
Step 8: Set other side tile. Keep adjusting if needed. You are basically molding this tile to fit the shelf.
Step 9: Fill the space with thinset to anchor the shelf!
Step 10: Install shelf and make sure it is level.
Step 11: Cut and fill in surround tile pieces (I use the Montolit 24” Tile Cutter).
The finished product— a secure and stable corner shower shelf for shaving or holding bath soaps.
